Industrial Economy

*National Energy Administration: March nationwide electricity consumption increased 5.9% y/y and Q1 total electricity consumption increased 3.6% y/y, of which industrial electricity consumption increased 4.4% y/y. The growth rate of natural gas and refined oil consumption began to pick up significantly from February. Increasing demand for industrial energy has led to a steady increase in coal consumption.

*CAC, NDRC and MIIT jointly issued work arrangements to further promote the large-scale deployment and application of IPv6 which set the number of active IPv6 users reached 750mio and the number of IPv6 connections to the Internet of Things reached 300 mio by 2023.

*MOT: Q1 investment in transportation fixed assets reached cny 720.5 bn, up 13.3% y/y.

*National Energy Administration: The newly installed capacity of renewable energy was 47.4mio kW in Q123, up 86.5% y/y, accounting for 80.3% of the total installed capacity, with 10.4mio kW of wind power and 33.66mio kW of photovoltaic power.

*MoC: Q1 export value of NEV reached usd 9.55bn, accounting for 44.7% of automobile exports, driving the overall export growth of 0.6%.

*US President Joe Biden is expected to sign an executive order in the coming weeks limiting US investment in certain high-tech sectors in China, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday. Certain high-tech industries could be the focus of investment restrictions on China, could face a total investment ban, including semiconductors and possibly AI and quantum technology.

*CBIRC issued an announcement on improving the quality of financial services for small and micro enterprises in 2023 which emphasized to keep the overall lending rate stable and gradually reduce the comprehensive financing cost of small and micro enterprises.

* Global crude oil prices closed up collectively. June NYMEX crude oil contract up 0.7% to closed at $74.82/b, July Brent contract up 0.71% to closed at $78.27/b. INE crude oil active contract down 2.37% to 527.9 yuan/b.

* Precious metals closed mixed. COMEX gold contract up 0.05% to closed at $1997/oz. SHFE gold active contract down 0.46% to closed at 444.90 yuan/gram.

* Metals closed up mostly, LME nickel up 2.11%, LME copper up 0.48%, LME lead up 0.24%. SHFE nickel up 1.21%, bonded copper up 0.37%, SHFE aluminum down 0.57% on the contrast.

* Commodity futures closed down mostly, energy & chemistry futures saw weak performance, LPG down 1.88%, fuel oil down 1.8%, methanol down 1.6%, glass down 1.24%, bleached softwood kraft pulp down 1.21%, polyester fiber down 1.16%. Black series closed down collectively, coking coal down 3.89%, coke down 2.16%, steel rebar down 1.13%. Agricultural products closed down mostly, No.1 soybeans down 1.54%, RBD palm olein down 1.35%, corn starch down 1.24%.
